Rob Downey, President and CEO of Annamaet Petfoods, has been honored by Pet Age Magazine with a 2022 “Power 50” award.  Recognized for his immense contributions to the pet food industry and decades of animal health and nutrition experience, Downey’s impressive career has been vitally important to the overall growth and success of the pet care industry.

“It’s an honor to be included on this ‘Best of the Best’ list of pet industry leaders, innovators and pioneers,” said Downey. “Since day one, I’ve been committed to the very best for our pets’ health and nutrition.”

Downey’s graduate work has been widely credited with being the seminal studies that forever changed the way modern performance dogs were fed, and has been the foundation for feeding performance dogs for the past 35 years. This work has been a big part of the growth and success of Annamaet Petfoods since the beginning.

“Pets nationwide and around the world are benefiting from the products we produce,” added Downey. “I appreciate this recognition, and am sincerely grateful to serve pets, their loving parents and bring the very best that we can to the pet food and supplement industry. Thank you, Pet Age Magazine, for this honor!”

Downey began Annamaet Petfoods in 1986 with a mission to develop holistic, natural, American-made pet foods. The family-owned and operated business, named after Downey’s mother, Anna Mae, has always put quality and science first when developing products. While ensuring products are safe, natural, effective and palatable is priority, the company is also best-known for introducing novel, sustainable ingredients to the pet food industry as well.

“Before it was fashionable, Annamaet was committed to sustainability,” Downey added. “Those principles we set in the 80s remain part of our mission today as we continue to innovate industry-leading, high quality and healthy products that pets need most.”

Today, Annamaet’s product line includes multiple life-stage and pre-therapeutic diets, treats and performance supplements. In 2019, Annamaet expanded their dedication to sustainable product development by partnering with BioFlex, a market leader in biodegradable technology, to launch new degradable packaging.

“We have always been diligent about sourcing sustainable, high-quality ingredients for our dog and cat food formulas,” said Downey. “It was the natural expansion for us to bring sustainable, degradable bags to our customers next.”

Downey’s professional dedication to holistic animal nutrition, passion for innovating the healthiest, most effective products available in the market, and commitment to supporting as sustainable future in the pet industry are just a few reasons that demonstrate why he was rightfully selected for this prestigious “Power 50” list.
